When I first starting getting into Games Workshop games, it was hard to find information about painting miniatures. Since that time (way back) there have been more (and better) painting articles in White Dwarf magazine and some great publications (including the recent How to Paint Citadel Miniatures), not to mention the awesome resource of the internet. You can find painted examples throughout this web site, including loads of different techniques. However, over all those years I still have never seen an article about the more mundane (but nonetheless interesting) details about where people paint, what else they do when they paint, and how much they accomplish in a session.

Sensing that I wasn't the only one who would be interested in learning where other hobbyists ply their craft, I sent around a questionnaire to my friends and coworkers. For the most part, the answers are from the US Promotions office, but I've gotten feedback from a few members of Games Workshop's upper management as well as some of the Games Designers themselves. This article includes many pictures of the participants' painting lairs as well as their up-to-date projects.

John Shaffer's paint station is set up so nicely.

Thanks to all those who gave of their time to help me put this together, as well as to the (good lookin' - Ed) Black Gobbo team who did all the pretty layout and editing things.
