Again, this is just the sort of thing that I've always wondered. The answers varied, but everyone seemed to agree that their level of enthusiasm for a project could launch them on epic binges. Not surprisingly, the largest variable for NOT painting seemed not to be hobby-driven – but more about marital status (single/dating/married) or family concerns (as in, do you have kids and if so, how young are they and how often do you have to watch them?).

Nick Davis (US White Dwarf). I try to paint at least once a day for about an hour. In reality, as I have two kids, I usually end up painting three or four times during the week and have a painting time anywhere between 30 minutes to an hour. I do get a bit more painting time during the weekends and I get in two or three hours when possible in the afternoon.

Dave Taylor. I paint probably 5 nights/days a week. This varies from a hastily grabbed 30-minute session to a planned 12-hour odyssey.

Just a few of Chad Mierzwa's current undead constructs.
Gav's Farseer.

Gav Thorpe. I tend to go for lengthy periods without painting (several months, in fact), but when I am working on a project, I try to get through it as efficiently as possible. This means I tend to paint at lunchtime – hence the workspace on the desk. Sixty minutes a day doesn't seem like much, but that's 5 hours a week. I try to do a unit in a week.

Andy Chambers. Three or four times a week unless I have a particularly good console or PC game to play.

Jason Buyaki. Usually 3-4 days a week and about about 2-3 hours per session.

Eric Sarlin. I paint in spurts. Sometimes, I'll paint a few hours every evening. Other times, I'll go weeks without picking up a paint brush. Sometimes I can bang out a whole unit in a few evenings. Other times, I'll spend weeks on a single model like a general or large monster.

Ty Finocchiaro. Painting tends to come in bursts for me. It's never a steady thing. A model here, a model there. Mostly I work best under deadlines. Tournaments, work projects, and stupid painting bets (paint an army in a month, etc.) tend to get the brush moving on a more regular basis. When it comes to painting an army, it has to be done "assembly line" style. I really can't just paint one unit at a time over a period of time. If I'm gonna sit down and paint, it's all getting done in one concentrated effort!

John Stallard. I paint most evenings, probably about 2 hours a night. When I'm really excited, I'll even get up a little early to get an extra 20-30 minutes of painting done in the morning. Good weekends can mean longer sessions. I have to be careful, though, as I have a lot books in my wargames room. The reference material can be a two-edged sword, as I can get lost rereading whole chapters when I just meant to look at colour schemes.

John Shaffer. I paint at least three times a week, including two sessions of about 3 hours after work and usually most of the day either Sunday or Saturday. Of course, this fluctuates depending on my level of excitement about a project, the weather outside, or if I have other extracurricular activities to attend to.

Chad Mierzwa. Not as often as I would like!
